OJ Simpson and Norm Macdonald: Fired for Being a Hater

My favorite comedian of all time is probably Norm Macdonald. He’s also your favorite comedian’s favorite comedian. Norm Macdonald just understood how to make people laugh. He also had a keen understanding of how to make people groan; his view of comedy requires the audience to groan sometimes. There were a lot of shining moments throughout his career – chairman of the bored, the Conan moth joke, the View incident, and 9/11 airlines. But one of the main things he should be remembered for is being a first-ballot Hall of Fame OJ Simpson hater.

For those of you out of the know, Norm Macdonald was Weekend Update. I think we can all agree SNL sucks, and has always kind of sucked. People lie to themselves about “their era” of SNL, because they watch all the good sketches. The reality is that there are a lot of horrible sketches that the writers never know how to finish. And maybe it’s because I never experienced live Norm Update (I did not exist yet), but I’ve never seen him suck.

One of those things that made him great was his absolute hate of OJ Simpson. I’ll post the video below, but there’s a whole compilation of Norm making fun of OJ. His, “murder is legal in California,” is the best possible reaction to the acquittal (can we all agree he’s definitely guilty now?). This also led to his SNL death; fired for being the world’s biggest hater because OJ had friends at SNL. And now, OJ is dead and his memory remains in his weird Twitter game and OJ hate.

This is what the ESPYs should be.

The worst thing about OJ’s death is that he’ll never find the real killer of Nicole. Of course, he spent the majority of his time post-acquittal hanging and banging with hot models. The most annoying thing about OJ, though, was the knowledge and lack of self-awareness he had. His later years will be marked by a memory of a fantasy football king and Patrick Mahomes impersonator.

There was an era of Brittany and Jackson Mahomes hate that this was just perfect.

This won’t be a long blog, mostly because I just wanted to write about Norm when I heard OJ died. Everyone is going to talk about the Heisman and the Hall of Fame NFL career. There will be Bills fans posting highlights (as of now the Bills themselves have not posted a RIP message; maybe OJ was sacrificed to the pit). They may even place a tribute at their local Hertz in honor of its greatest spokesperson. Ford should make a post with a Bronco, saying something like, “We had to discontinue this car for 20 years because of you.” I think the Goldman family will have some sort of celebration. And, of course, everyone will talk about the murders.

And to end this blog, let me leave you with the man himself making fun of OJ. Twitter is posting these, but it’s only posting the first video that’s 11 minutes. Take the time to watch this; the 30 or so minutes is worth it.

“It’s official, murder is now legal in California.”

Thanks, Norm.
