I Will Never Root for the Texas Rangers

Wherever this weird sentiment came from that Astros fans should root for the Rangers can go to the same place Davy Crockett told everyone to go. I’ll be honest there was a time I was cool with the Rangers. This was back when the Astros were still slumming it up in the NL, and guys like Ian Kinsler, Josh Hamilton, and Adrian Beltre. I never supported them, but I didn’t hate them.

I fucking hate these Rangers.

I listen to my Father of the Year.

To start off the little brother syndrome has been off the charts since we got good in around 2015. Every Rangers fan has been in this petty ass state where they have to tear down the Astros to make themselves feel better that their ballpark can double as a Costco with how bland it is. Let’s not forget the last team to win a championship in Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington/Bumfuck was the Dodgers (it’s only a real championship to dunk on the Rangers). I have seen so many Rangers fans get a hardon for the cheating scandal, when let’s be honest, that didn’t affect them at all. They have spent years tearing down the Astros accomplishments because their poverty franchise can’t get over the fact they blew it with one strike to go.

Warning: I’m going to talk about soccer some. I’ve spent the last 5-6 years despising teams who spend a ton of money to win their way to championships. Manchester City and PSG (and Newcastle) are owned by countries. They’ve spent literal billions trying to make a championship team, with only one of those teams experiencing success. So, why am I, a man who would tell Pep Guardiola his empire is built on blood to his face, just supposed to accept that the Rangers spent half a billion crafting this team? This isn’t some underdog team that worked hard to push themselves to the World Series (it’s actually the Diamondbacks). This is the embodiment of the Dallas elitist mentality that makes so many of them just completely insufferable human beings (I’ve been around SMU and TCU fans and holy shit maybe China/Russia/North Korea/Canada/etc. should nuke us). In the words of CM Punk, the Rangers aren’t the underdogs anymore. They have become what they hate. The Rangers have become the New York Yankees.

Last but very much not least, there’s the Tampa incident. I have tried my hardest to rationalize those elitist pricks denying a series switch as our city, my city was underwater. The water that night almost came in my house, and my family and I were some of the luckiest ones. Those bastards had the gall to cry about ticket holders and such.

You know what’s not fair? Doing everything you can, and all of a sudden a storm decides you don’t need a house. There’s been a lot of scumbag moves in sports, but it’s not like we were asking the Rangers to switch series because we felt like it. And that’s what makes me so annoyed about Rangers fans believing we need to all come together as Texans. Where was that Texan mentality in 2017 when there were people trapped in their homes, begging for the Coast Guard to save them? Where was that Texan mentality when all the Rangers had to do was comp some tickets? I know I’ve listed other reasons this team can go fuck itself, but this is genuinely the one that gets me most. And I still see Rangers fans trying to defend it because they’re dweebs who are so beaten down by the Astros being good.

This isn’t about the Rangers beating the Astros. The Astros could have finished last in the AL West and I would never root for these Rangers. Hopefully all their sorry excuses for fans (who cheer at Altuve almost being hit) will have that feeling at the back of their mind that they bought this run.

Anyways, go Snakes and Little Piña.
